School of Law
After FJCU was re-established in Xinzhuang in 1963, the Department of Law, the Department of Economics, and the Department of Industry and Business Management were set up within the College of Law. In 2003, the Department of Law and the Department of Financial and Economic Law combined to form the School of Law. At present, the School of Law comprises three departments, two master's programs, one in-service master's program, and one doctoral program. The Legal Service Center and the John Paul II Peace Institute are affiliated with the College.
Holistic Education
We provide students with the fundamentals necessary to establish a solid professional foundation in law. The School uses a holistic educational approach which covers professional ethics and offers opportunities to engage in service learning and collaborative projects with partners in industry.
Faculty
We have a team of thirty-six full-time faculty members, all of whom have received a doctoral degree in law either in Taiwan or from an accredited institution in the U.S.A., the U.K., Germany, Austria, Japan, or France. The School is further supported by more than forty adjunct instructors.
Educational Resources
We own a rich collection of books, housed primarily in the Fahy Memorial Library. Included in our collections are 192,230 legal books and 3,873 legal journals in Chinese and other languages. Books aside, students can access 243 databases, including Westlaw, beck-online, Chinese legal database, Lawbank, and root Law.
Scholarship and Research
Fu Jen Law Review, published by the School of Law, is a legal journal officially indexed in the Taiwan Social Sciences Citation Index (TSSCI). The journal’s review committee is comprised of legal scholars and renowned senior professors from FJCU and other academic institutions. Each submission must pass two-way anonymous review and receive approval of both reviewers in order to be published. This rigorous review process is a big part of what makes Fu Jen Law Review the influential academic journal it is in Taiwan.
Educational Goals and Mission
We are one of the most well-known law schools in all of Taiwan. To maintain this position of distinction, our School not only plays a leading role in the research and development of new pedagogical techniques for the instruction of traditional legal subjects, but also educates students to be well-rounded and virtuous through an approach which is professional, diverse, and integrated. To this end, the School recruits instructors who boast rich legal experience and a solid academic reputation; promotes post-graduate law programs; encourages academic research; strengthens students’ foreign language skills; helps students prepare to take national examinations; establishes dual-degree opportunities with law schools overseas; and fosters deeper ties with students and alumni. The School also takes pride in helping students establish connections with members of business and industry.
Career Paths
Graduates of the School enjoy many options, including the pursuit of advanced studies or taking the bar to become a practicing lawyer or other professional agent. Some of our graduates take the national examination for public service.
