Holistic Education Center

The Holistic Education Center (HEC) was founded in 2000 and is responsible for planning and implementing the holistic education curriculum at Fu Jen Catholic University. All undergraduates must complete 32 credits in order to graduate.

The Curriculum

The HEC curriculum aims to equip students with broad knowledge and skills (particularly in critical thinking) necessary to be active citizens and social actors. In short, we want to help students realize their potential physically, mentally, and spiritually.

The curriculum is divided into three main categories:

  • Fundamentals: Introduction to University Life, Philosophy of Life, Professional Ethics, and Physical Education.
  • Core Skills: Chinese Literature, Foreign Languages, and Information Literacy.
  • General Education: Arts and Humanities, Natural Science and Technology, and Social Sciences.

Fundamental courses guide students in establishing a system of values which will allow them to become well-balanced individuals and responsible citizens.

Core skills courses establish a foundation for lifelong learning and enhance students' capacity to become effective social actors.

General education courses offer students wide-ranging knowledge and instill an appreciation for aesthetics and art, a robust social conscience, and respect for nature.
